Butterfly Haven

Being the proud owner of a rather lovely new Nikon D5000 I have been getting out and about as much as possible this summer exploring conservation areas for butterflies, wild orchids and as ever, inspiration. A few weeks ago I was introduced to Yew Tree Hill part of the conservation land managed by the charity The British Butterfly Conservation Society.

A marbled white had some kind of tumour or canker on the hind left wing and could only fly in very low circles. Settling on my hand for a few minutes I had the opportunity to take this whilst discussing how to hide from hungry sparrows.

Yew Tree is a wonderful location for butterflies and day flying moths, I highly recommend a visit, you may just see some of these…

and they might just see you!

  1. These pictures are stunning! I’m going to be living in Ireland come February and would love to skip over to London to see Yew Tree and maybe try to go to Secret Garden! Both posts were great to look at!
